EARLY YEARS AND CREATION OF THE OASIS BAND
The future star of rock music was born in Manchester in 1972. Gallagher was brought up in a large family and had two older brothers, Paul and Noel. Later, he and his older brother Noel created the legendary rock band Oasis.
Surprisingly, the future British rock legend didn’t have an interest in music and vocals at a young age. Gallagher attended St Bernard’s RC Primary School and Barlow Roman Catholic High School. He was quite hot-tempered and often got into various fights. Gallagher was passionate about sports and wasn’t interested in music at all.
His attitude towards music changed after he was hit on the head with a hammer by a student from a rival school. Then Gallagher began to listen to such famous bands as The Beatles, The Stone Roses, The La’s, The Who, The Kinks, The Jam and T. Rex. He also became obsessed with John Lennon. Moreover, he repeatedly claimed that he was his reincarnation, although Liam was born 8 years before the death of the famous musician. Gallagher became confident that he had good vocal skills. He was burning with the desire to join a rock band and start his career as a musician.
The concert of The Stone Roses at International 2 in 1988 was a turning point in Gallagher’s life. After all, if he and his brother hadn’t visited it, maybe, the legendary group Oasis would have never been formed. At that concert, they met other future band members who had the same tastes in music, interests and life views.
CAREER IN OASIS
It all started when Gallagher was invited by a school friend, Paul McGuigan, to join his band The Rain. He was the lead vocalist in the band. However, soon, it turned out their songs weren’t very good. Therefore, Gallagher definitely couldn’t achieve any success in that group.
Thus, in 1991, Gallagher and his brother Noel founded the legendary group Oasis, to which they invited the guys they met at The Stone Roses concert. Their music was an incredible hit, memorable and endearing. It was an innovative approach to creating rock music in the 1990s, thanks to which Oasis conquered a multi-million audience.
In particular, the first colossal success came to Gallagher and his band Oasis with the release of their first album Definitely Maybe in 1994. At the time of its release, the album became one of the most popular and listened-to debut albums sold in the UK. But the band gained real worldwide popularity after the release of their another album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? in 1995.
Each song on the album was different. They were characterised by a special sound in the Brit-rock style and dynamic guitar playing by the two brothers Liam and Noel. Undoubtedly, thanks to their unique playing as well as melodic and memorable songs, Oasis became one of the most outstanding bands of the 1990s.
Gallagher’s career in the group was brilliant. Liam reached unprecedented heights, but in 2009, the band broke up, and he had to create a new one from scratch.
In particular, Gallagher, his brother and some other members of the disbanded Oasis formed a new group, Beady Eye. However, it didn’t gain such popularity as Oasis. They released two albums, namely Different Gear, Still Speeding in 2011 and BE in 2013, but in 2014, Beady Eye was disbanded.
After the breakup of another group, Gallagher decided to take a short break in his creativity and started a solo career in 2017.
A solo career brought Gallagher no less success than his participation in Oasis. His album As You Were gained critical and commercial recognition. His second album Why Me? Why Not, released in 2019, was no less successful. Gallagher’s solo work is a nod to the rock and Britpop style that characterised his early career in Oasis.
GALLAGHER’S BEHAVIOUR
In addition to being a very popular British singer and musician, Gallagher, who originated from Manchester, was also famous for his rebellious behaviour. Even at a young age, he constantly participated in fights. Moreover, once Gallagher spoke very offensively about his brother Noel. The brother even had to leave the group after that.
In 2010, Gallagher received an award for the best album of the past 30 years at the Brit Awards and showed his rebellious behaviour again. In particular, he swore right in the middle of the ceremony, in front of an audience of thousands, after which he thanked the guys from Oasis for many years of hard work. He thanked everyone except his own brother Noel. After that, Gallagher intentionally dropped the microphone on the floor and handed the award to one of the audience. The host of the ceremony called him a “knobhead”.
